
Hubert Rutkowski made the world concert premiere of an uncovered Chopin piano by Pleyel (No.
13214) for Chopin's birthday, on March 1 2021.
Hubert Rutkowski's intepretations are shaped by his passion for the aesthetics of the performance
aesthetics of the old school of the 19th century. Underlying the development of his artistic profile
of his artistic profile lies in the pianistic traditions of Frederic Chopin, Theodore Leschetizky and
their heirs, such as Karol Mikuli, Moritz Rosenthal, for example, Raul Koczalski and Artur
Schnabel.
In 2007, the pianist won the International Chopin Competition in Hannover. He also received the
“Medalla per Unanimitat” distinction at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in
Barcelona (2006).
In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Berenberg-Kulturpreis award in Hamburg.
The pianist is a graduate of the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, in the class of
Professor Anna Jastrzebska-Quinn. From 2005 to 2010, he completed his postgraduate studies at the
Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg in the class of prof. Yevgeny Koroliov.
An important moment in Hubert Rutkowski's career was the making of recordings of recordings of
unknown piano works by Julian Fontana, a friend and student of F. Chopin and works by Theodor
Leschetizky for the Acte Préalable label (2007, 2008). In the Chopin Year 2010, the artist made a
recording of “Pupils of Chopin” for the Naxos label. Since then he has been active in concert
activity in most countries of Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA.
He has given concerts at festivals such as the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, Husum
Klavierfestival, Ars Longa Music Festival in Moscow, Festival Mozart Festival in Warsaw, the
Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles (USA), Artur Rubinstein Festival in Lodz, the International
Paderewski Festival Warsaw.
The pianist performs with renowned artists and conductors such as Lilya Zilberstein, Lukasz
Borowicz, Alexei Lubimov, Severin von Eckardstein, Martin Haselböck, Jamie Phillips.
In recent years, Hubert Rutkowski's passion has become historical pianos. In 2013 he recorded a
CD with works by C. Debussy on an Erard piano (1880), and in 2018 his album with works by F.
Chopin on a Pleyel piano (1847) for the Piano Classics label.
Hubert Rutkowski is the artistic director of the Chopin Festival in Hamburg, as well as initiator and
director of the International Teodor Leszek Piano Competition Theodor Leschetizky Piano
Competition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.
In April 2010, he won a competition for the position of professor at the Hochschule für Musik und
Theater in Hamburg, as one of the youngest professors in in Germany. Since then, he has been
teaching his own piano class. Since 2014 he has been head of the Piano Department at the same
University.
